UPCOPY uses a new technique called KEE - keyfile enabled
evaluation. You can evaluate in the usual sort of shareware mode
which has registration reminders, pauses, and no /s option. If
you prefer you can e-mail UPCFREE.DOC to me, Lewis Williams, at
100103.2675@compuserve.com, and I will send you an evaluation
keyfile which stops that. See UPCFREE.DOC for more information.
(This note is in UPCOPY.HLP and will not appear again.)

UPCOPY performs directory synchronization - it copies files one or
both ways as necessary to make directories identical. It picks out
new files, and updated files, and chooses the right copy direction.
UPCOPY can also erase files, erase duplicates, ask questions, show
file information, and show file comparisons. You can use UPCOPY
across a network to synchronize directories between PC's.
Any key or click continues. Then select: F9 to view UPCOPY.DOC
documentation, F1 for context sensitive help, F8 to learn the
benefits of registering. F10 starts a copy run. (You can do that
now to test - it's set to copy to itself, so nothing happens.)

(dr1)
Enter the first disk specifier -
a disk letter with ':'
(dir1)
Enter the first directory specifier - names separated by '\'.
An initial '\' means the root directory, otherwise the current
directory is understood. You can also use '..' to specify
its parent. Wildcards are not allowed in directory names.
(dr2)
Enter the second disk specifier -
a disk letter with ':'
(dir2)
Enter the second directory specifier - names separated by '\'.
An initial '\' means the root directory, otherwise the current
directory is understood. You can also use '..' to specify
its parent. Wildcards are not allowed in directory names.
(files)
Enter the files you want to copy, root and extension
separated by '.', are allowed as is the wildcard '*'
and the wild letter '?'. UPCOPY does not rename files
so this one specifier is common to both directories.
(B)
Batch or command mode. Simple old-fashioned non-windowed
output to the screen. This is the default with file
parameters. Specify /W to force windowed mode.
(C)
Only processes common files, those found in both the
directories. New files, those found in only one directory,
are not copied or erased. Directory information still shows
for new files unless the /Q option is set.
(CD)
Only processes common directories, those found in both
trees. New files, those found in only one directory,
can be copied or erased.
(D)
Asks you if you'd like a difference listing of
files which are different in the two directories.
The differencing happens automatically if /Y is set.
(E)
New files can be erased. If you say no to a copy
question you will be asked if you'd like to erase
the file instead. With /F you will just be asked
if you want to erase new files in path2. /F/Y/E
will erase new files in path2 automatically.
(EC)
Suppress copying and erase duplicate copies. With
prompts you can choose which duplicate is erased,
otherwise it's the target.
(F)
Standard forward copy only. Only copies from path1
(source) to path2 (target). With /E this can erase
files in path2. Files in path1 are never altered.
(I)
This gives a directory comparison without copying. Use
/D if you want to see how the file contents are different.
The /S/I combination is always available and checks entire
structures.
(M)
This also copies system and hidden files (CARE!), and
files that have changed attributes or size, with an
unchanged date.
(N)
This processes only new files, those found in just one
directory, and ignores common files, those found in both.
(O)
Old over new. This will also ask if you'd like to
overwrite a newer version with an older one. This
becomes automatic when you specify /F/Y/O.
(Q)
Quick and quiet mode. This option stops most directory
information. It also stops the comparison after the main
run that double-checks the directories for outstanding
differences caused by you answering 'no' to copy questions.
(R)
UPCOPY normally skips over read-only files. If you set this
option read-only files can be updated and copied. Check the
documentation for more information on read-only files.
(S)
Processes subdirectories too. All the sub-directories of
both path1 and path2 are scanned and new directories, those
in one path only, can be created. You specify the root '\'
directory to process entire disks. /I (directory information
only) is set as well if you set this in the shareware version.
(W)
Always run in this windowed mode. Overrides the
default /B batch mode for UPCOPY with parameters.
(Y)
Automatic mode with no prompt questions. The answer is
automatically 'yes' to all questions. You can switch to
this mode part way through a run by typing '!' to a question.
(no /s)
/I/S has been set so you can try out /S.
/I/S compares directory trees without copying.
If you prefer you can e-mail UPCFREE.DOC to the author
and you will be sent a free evaluation keyfile which
enables /s. See UPCFREE.DOC for more information.
(/B forced)
/D requires /B which has been set as well.
(F10)
This will perform an UPCOPY run using the
directories specified, and any options set.
(F9)
View the documentation UPCOPY.DOC.
(Esc)
Leave UPCOPY closing windows and mouse.
(error)
Press the ESCAPE key or click to close the error window.
(buttwd)
Scroll the information shown with the mouse on the
scrollbar, or use Page Up Page Down Home End.
-> <- change the button highlighted. ESC returns
you to the menu. ! (if shown) switches to auto mode
with no more prompts.
